Role Description
The Medical Coder II role requires advanced medical coding expertise across outpatient specialty clinics, emergency departments, observation services, and day surgeries. This position demands high productivity, strong attention to detail, and a consistent 97% or higher coding accuracy.
Key Responsibilities

Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness

Assign appropriate medical codes, including:

Evaluation & Management (E&M)
-
CPT and HCPCS (with modifiers and units)
-
ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes
-
ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for institutional services
-

Use MHS GENESIS to access patient records remotely
-
Meet productivity benchmarks while maintaining quality standards
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following education paths:

Associate’s degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or biological sciences, OR
-
University certificate in Medical Coding, OR
-
Completion of an advanced medical training program under professional supervision (U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Maritime Service)
Required Certifications (AAPC / AHIMA)
Professional Coding Certifications:

AAPC: CPC
-
AHIMA: RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P
Evaluation & Management Certifications:

AAPC: CEMC
-
NAMAS: CEMA
Institutional Coding Certifications (Required):

AAPC: CIC or COC

AHIMA: CCS
Experience Requirements

Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience

Required experience in outpatient specialty clinics, ED, observation services, or day surgeries

DoD or VA coding experience (preferred)

MHS GENESIS experience (preferred)
