Position Overview

Job Title: Journeyman Electrician
Pay: $27.60 – $32.21 per hour
Schedule: Full-time (various shifts available, Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday, day, evening, and night shifts)
Location: Orlando, FL

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems across the VA medical campus. Key duties include:

  • Installing, modifying, and repairing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and fixtures.

  • Reading and working from blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to plan layouts.

  • Determining placement of panels, conduits, junction boxes, and other fittings.

  • Responding to and resolving customer-reported issues.

  • Testing, troubleshooting, and repairing systems independently.

  • Planning installations and selecting appropriate wiring, conduits, relays, and controls.

This position is hands-on, requiring physical stamina and the ability to work in various conditions—including climbing, crawling, lifting heavy equipment (60+ lbs.), and standing for extended periods.

Qualifications

Unlike many positions, no specific length of training or education is required, but you must demonstrate proven skills and experience in electrical work. Applicants will be evaluated based on:

  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.

  • Proficiency in using and maintaining electrical hand tools.

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment and systems.

  • Ability to interpret and apply electrical drawings and schematics.

  • Strong troubleshooting and technical skills.

Volunteer experience (such as through AmeriCorps or Peace Corps) can also count toward qualifications.
