Role Summary

Under occasional supervision, the Bus Monitor assists the school bus driver in ensuring that students are safely boarded, transported, and dropped off. The role requires attentiveness, behavior management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.

Key Responsibilities

Bus Monitors are responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly bus environment. Duties include:

  • Assisting the bus driver with students during boarding and de-boarding

  • Monitoring and maintaining appropriate student behavior on the bus

  • Ensuring student safety at loading and unloading areas

  • Securing special equipment that may accompany students

  • Communicating professionally with students, parents, and employees

  • Attending required safety meetings and in-service training sessions

  • Preparing and maintaining accurate reports as assigned

  • Performing additional duties as directed by the Transportation Supervisor
