About the Role

This role is perfect for independent contributors with deep expertise in SQL Server administration and modern database engineering practices. As a Database Management professional at AutoNation, you will focus on:

SQL Server Administration: Installation, configuration, patching, backup/recovery, security, and high-availability setup using Failover Cluster Instances (FCI) and AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
Cloud & Modern Platforms: Implementation and support of AWS Aurora (MySQL & PostgreSQL), Snowflake, and modern data engineering practices.
Automation & Observability: Develop CI/CD pipelines, automate database provisioning using PowerShell and other tools, and monitor performance with platforms like AppDynamics and DataDog.
Data Strategy & Governance: Design data replication strategies, manage data masking and cloning with Delphix, and ensure adherence to data quality standards.
Collaboration & Client Communication: Understand business and technical requirements, troubleshoot issues, and present solutions directly to clients.

Key Responsibilities

Administer, maintain, and optimize SQL Server and cloud databases.
Develop and maintain data replication, performance tuning, and automation solutions.
Apply relational and dimensional data modeling principles; experience with dbt is a plus.
Document business rules, data models, and data transformation processes for project teams.
Act as a data steward and promote reuse of data objects to improve consistency.
Lead technical design for small projects and contribute to larger initiatives independently.

Required Experience & Education

5+ years of relevant experience in database administration and engineering.
BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Ability to function independently with minimal guidance while delivering high-quality results.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
